For the lecture on Song of Roland, the exam will only cover details found on your book. That is why I won’t upload any lectures on Song of Roland. I would just copy the book. The same with Nibelungenlied and A Filipino Candidate in Hawaii. For the literature domain, you just have to be prepared with your insights regarding the stories.

Linguistic features and Logical Fallacies already included in the coverage file (4th yr)

I’ll be getting my own website soon, that’s why I’ve been too busy to post updates here. Anyway here are some:

3rd year students: I basically explained to you guys about our intensive grammar lessons that will transpire during the rest of what’s left of the 3rd Quarter. Aside from that, there are some section-specific reminders here:

  • New Zealand: Your assignment on our composition class on irony plus an oral reading of your essay. Your PEW (Peer Editing Worksheets) is due on Tuesday. Please pass it along with your original essays and your revised essays.
  • Australia: Obviously we won’t meet on Monday. PEW’s will be passed on Tuesday. This will be your last chance to pass your assignments. Again, please attach your original essays and your revised essays.

On Tuesday we’ll start our discussion on grammar basics. I hate doing remedial lessons but seeing that this will all benefit you especially next year, I tried to pursue this project.

4th year students: Since there was a misunderstanding on schedule last Thursday, I wasn’t able to meet Antarctica. Anyway:

  • Antarctica: We’ll discuss linguistic features on Monday.
  • Europe: Oral reading of your essays.

May I remind you guys that when I’m not around, that would be your chance to catch up with your theses. Some of you, as I’ve observed, were doing their assignments during my time. I do understand your situation but please do remember that you’re doing it during my period, when you’re supposed to be doing tasks that I expect all of you to do (and home works are supposed to be done in your homes).

Chapter 2 of your theses is due on December 18, 2009. On Monday I’ll give those groups whom I haven’t given research articles things that I’ve research in UP. A little help for your chapter 2.

All students: I’ll uploading our lectures from our previous meetings. Your 3rd Quarterly Exam according to the Academic Calendar is scheduled on January 14-16, 2010. Oh, and don’t forget to attend the Battle of the Bands event. Please do look up http://www.sjbschoolofrock.co.cc for more details.

4th year students: We will start on Chapter 1 of your thesis next week. Monday to Wednesday will be devoted to the research discussions and consultations. Thursday and Friday will be Literature days, as we will tackle the Nibelungenlied. The first draft of Chapter 1 is to be submitted on November 6, Friday next week. The second draft is due on Novermber 13. The third draft will be submitted on November 20, and the final draft will be submitted on November 27. I expect all of you to have your respective finalized topics next week. For those who will be using the correlation coefficient, make sure that your variables are both quantitative.

While browsing the internet, I came across this site that freely gives scales for researchers. The scales measure the following variables:

  • Attitude towards women
  • Authoritarianism/Rebellion
  • Hassle
  • Body Esteem
  • Body Awareness
  • Dieting Beliefs
  • Loneliness
  • Gender role identity
  • Self-esteem
  • Perceived Social Support
  • Procrastination
  • Satisfaction with Life
  • Driving Anger
  • Trust (in a relationship)
  • Cognitive Failure
  • Computer Anxiety

Also, this site freely distributes scales that measure personality, music preference, and personal space. I haven’t checked all of these scales but they might help you in finalizing your topics.

3rd year students: I was impressed with Australia’s performance in their preparation for the discussion of the reading selection. Kudos to all of you guys and please continue doing so. Don’t forget the activity that I assigned to all of you, due on Friday. For New Zealand, we will meet next week Monday for the discussion of the reading. Please prepare for an intensive discussion. Please remember your reports that will start next week, Tuesday.

exam-hall21

Though there’s still an exam pending to be taken on Tuesday, I congratulate all of you for surviving all of the exams you’ve taken so far. I’m now checking your exams, hoping that no one will be getting a mark lower than 80% xD

For the meantime, please take note of the details written below.

4th year students: I’ll still discuss this on Wednesday. Anyway there are two things that I want all of you to remember this 3rd quarter.

  • Monday to Wednesday of every week will be reserved for thesis lectures, so there’s no need to bring your books, unless otherwise stated. Thursday and Friday will be reserved for discussing World Literature and other pertinent stuff.
  • For those who want to change their group membership, let me add rules to this, to avoid bad feelings and FO’s. One can only change his/her group membership if his/her parent group allows it, and if the group that he/she wishes to join also allows it. The member that will be transferring from one group to another should also be okay with it. There will be no forced eviction of group members, nor changing memberships without consent of BOTH groups.
  • Your topics will be due next week, so please finalize your topics, as we will start discussing writing your introductions.
  • I’ve arranged for all seniors to be allowed to use the Library for research purposes. I’ll announce when you’ll be allowed to use it.

3rd year students: You’ll have an activity where in you’ll have to report on the other writers of the Renaissance and their works. We will also have remedial grammar and composition lessons, probably every Monday for New Zealand and every Friday for Australia. Please start reading on the rest of the writers of the Renaissance.

I’ll post updates here as soon as I can. To those who were having hard time accessing this website, please bear with me for awhile, as I am currently in the process of buying my own domain, www.adobosoda.com, and hosting the website to a more reliable webhost.

NOTE: UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED, FOLLOW THE STUFF LISTED IN THE LATEST POST.

Note: People, when I ask if you have some questions, clarifications, reactions, suggestions etc, please do pay attention. So that you’ll be able to avoid embarrassing moments. Do not trust your own understanding. Ask people, ask. Otherwise, I’ll assume that you all got it. It seems both parties were at fault here. I automatically trusted you people that you’ve understood what I’m trying to say. And I’m sorry for that.

4th year students: The lecture which your quiz #4 will be based upon is already uploaded. Just go to the Downloads section located at the upper left of this website, or click here. Again, the assignment due on Tuesday is a brief analysis of the Thesis assigned to your group. Those theses are the ones that you’ve picked when you draw lots during the initial groupings. Please be reminded that because this is a group activity, you are going to rate your groupmates performance using the similar peer evaluation form I’ve given to all of you.

Quiz #4’s coverage is Aeneid’s book 1 and 2 summary, Interpretation of Horace’s To Licinius, some details concerning Martial’s epigrams, and Epictetus’ Enchiridion

3rd year students: For Australia, we won’t meet tomorrow. For New Zealand, we will have a special activity. Quiz #3 is scheduled Tuesday (yes, it’s not a home work, it’s a quiz). The lecture last Thursday will be posted tonight. Please check this website for updates. The lecture last Thursday has been posted. Please go to the Downloads Section, or click here. The quiz will be a word completion type of quiz. You’re going to supply the missing words in Shakespeare’s Sonnet CXVI. And for Pete’s sake, ask if you have questions in class, unless you’re all perfectly contented with the results of your exams last quarter. There’s no homework, I’ve cancelled it obviously.
